Our comprehensive course offerings range from beginners to advanced in both Salsa and Mambo. Unique to Dance Vancouver is our variety of booster classes, such as body movement, shines & styling, musicality, as well as regularly featuring secondary dances through our Dance of the Month course. We cover all aspects of Salsa to ensure our students have every opportunity to progress as quickly and as far as they’d like.

BEGINNERS

Partner Classes

Salsa 1

This is the Starter Course no one should miss!

No previous dance or Salsa experience required. Each class starts with an explanation or review followed by a new Salsa turn pattern. Students are introduced to fundamental lead and follow techniques including right and left turns, cross body lead, rhythm recognition and dance floor etiquette.

Recommended to do this level 3 months before moving to level 2.

Beginner Track

Movement Basics 

Learn to move like a Latino!

 

The essence of Salsa is being able to move your body to the rhythms of Salsa... so start your journey right by learning to move authentically from the get go!

Pre-requisites: Zero talent and zero experience required. The only requirement is you show up and have a willingness to learn. We'll take care of the rest.

Recommended for anyone new to Salsa body movement.

Saturdays, 12:00 - 12:50pm

Shines Basics 

Get fit & have fun while learning to look great on the dance floor! 

This course will provide the foundation of your shines and styling moving forward and is geared to newer dancers.Open to men and women.

 

Recommended to take this course for a minimum of 6 months before advancing to Shines Beyond Basics.

Pre-requisite: None.

Saturdays, 1:00 - 1:50pm

 

BEGINNERS

Beginner Track

The beginner Track is a package of two classes held in back to back time slots. These classes go together like peanut butter and jelly.  The Footwork class will develop your base for shines (fancy footwork), while the Body Movement class will train you to dance like a Latino.  

These are non-partner, non-touch classes.

Body Movement Intro, 12:00 - 12:50pm

Body Movement Intro 

Learn to move like a Latino!

 

The essence of Salsa is being able to move your body to the rhythms of the music... so start your journey right by learning to move authentically from the get go!

INTERMEDIATE

Salsa 2

This course will be the highlight of your week!

Designed for students comfortable with the basic steps, cross body lead, basic timing, change of place, left and right turns. This level builds off Level 1 to create more dynamic turn patterns perfect for the dance floor. 

 

Recommended to do this level for a minimum of 4 months before moving to Salsa 3.

Due to COVID - 19: Couples only. Masks mandatory.

Mondays, 8:30 - 9:20pm 

Salsa 3

You've done the groundwork, now step it up a notch! 

This level is for advanced-beginner to intermediate dancers looking to either attain or refine their intermediate technical abilities. Focus is on partnering skills, spinning techniques, travelling turns, balance and connection to help you be a great partner on the dance floor.

Recommended to take this level a minimum of 6 months before moving to level 4.

Pre-requisite: Completion of Salsa 2 or equivalent.

 

Due to COVID-19: Couples only. Masks mandatory.

Mambo 2

It’s all about the “Two” beat!

This course is for On1 Salsa dancers interested in learning to dance Salsa On2 (aka Mambo, New York, Puerto Rican style). Focus is on developing students proficiency with On2 timing and confidence for the social dance floor. Material covered will be the equivalent of Salsa 2. 

Recommended to be proficient in this level before advancing to Mambo 3.

Pre-requisite: High Proficiency in Salsa 2 (On1) or higher.

Mambo 3

Mad about Mambo?!

 

This level is for advanced-beginner to intermediate level On2 / Mambo dancers looking to attain and or refine their intermediate technical abilities On2. Focus is on partnering skills to help you be an amazing partner on the dance floor.

Recommended to take this level a minimum of 6 months before moving to Mambo 4.

 

Pre-requisite: Completion of Mambo 2 at Dance Vancouver or equivalent.

Dance of the Month 

Each month students will get the opportunity to learn and focus on a different secondary dance form, including but not limited to Cha Cha Cha, Boogaloo, Latin Hustle, Pachanga, Rumba Guaguanco, Bachata, Ladies Styling, Musicality & more. ​

 

Recommended for Salsa 3 students and up.

December's DOTM is Cha Cha Cha/Boogaloo

These classes will be touch free, non-partner classes.

Tuesdays, 8:30 - 9:30pm

Rumba Track 

Maximize your time & learning!

 

The first hour kicks off with a mobility warm-up, then straight into High Intensity Interval Training. If you are new to this class, consult your Dr. before joining and or do so at your pace, but as the weeks progress so to will your physical capacity taking your fitness level to new heights. 

 

The second hour we will go over the basics of Rumba Guaguanco so you can attain the essence of the Rumba, then progress to fun and playful material. 

These are non-partner, non-touch classes.

Recommended: Bring a yoga mat, hand towel and bottle of water for the HIIT fitness class.

Mondays:

Low to Moderate Fitness, 6:30 - 7:20pm

Break, 7:20 - 7:30pm

Rumba Guaguanco, 7:30 - 8:20pm

HIIT Fitness*

*This class is being modified to be a low to moderate fitness class as per PHO orders.

Get fit in a challenging but fun small group environment. 

As a former track athlete, basketball player and currently a strength and conditioning coach and kinesiologist, Moises brings years of experience, accolades and knowledge to his classes. Classes are challenging, but stick with it and you'll see week by week you'll get stronger and your physical capacity will improve.

 

Consult your Dr. and/or participate at your own pace. Also notify the instructor of any physical issues or injuries and he can adjust your routine

Rumba Guaguanco

Fun, flirtatious 

Cross train your Salsa skills with this fun, flirtatious, folkloric Cuban dance. The cadence and playfulness of Rumba are a great addition to your Salsa skills.

Pre-requisite: Our Body Movement Intro & Body Movement Basics.

Intermediate Salsa Track 

Maximize your time & learning!

 

The intermediate Salsa Track is a package of Footwork Basics & Body Movements Basics, conveniently held in back to back time slots. The pairing and development of both skills will allow you to dance organically and with ease.

These are non-partner, non-touch classes.

Salsa Body Movement Basics

Add flavour and style to your dancing while getting a great workout! 

 

Being able to move to the rhythm is the true essence of dancing Salsa and besides it will take your solo and partnering abilities to a whole other level. 

 

Recommended for All Levels of On1 dancers on an ongoing basis

Salsa Footwork Basics

Get fit & have fun while learning to look great on the dance floor! 

This course will amp up your shines and styling variations and provide a solid base moving forward. Geared to advanced beginners and intermediate On1 Salsa dancers. Open to men and women.

 

Recommended to take this course for a minimum of 6 months before advancing to Mambo Footwork Basics.

Pre-requisite: Salsa level 2 or higher. This course is taught On1.

Intermediate Mambo Track 

Maximize your time & learning!

 

The intermediate Mambo Track is a package of Shines Beyond & Body Movements Beyond, conveniently held in back to back time slots. class will train you to dance with flavour.

Mambo Body Movement Basics

Recommended to take this course for a minimum of 6 months before advancing to Shines Plus.

Pre-requisite: Mambo level 2 or higher.

Ladies Track 

Get fit and look great on the dance floor!

 

The first hour starts off with Ladies Styling by Scarlet, to develop more feminine movements and arm styling.

 

Thee second hour Nina takes over with an overall body work-out with added emphasis on the lower body, (glutes, abs & legs).  

These are non-partner, non-touch classes.

Booty Camp, 7:30 - 8:20pm

Booty Camp

Get your rear into gear! 

Although a full body work out, extra focus is on strengthening and toning participants abs, glutes and legs. 

 

A base of fitness and Dr. consult is recommended. Workouts are challenging. Participants are encouraged to participate at their own pace.

Required: Bring your own yoga mat, hand towel and water bottle.

Ladies Styling

Find your inner Diva! 

Building off our body movement and shines courses, this course will go over feminine specific arm-work and movements adding cool repertoire of femininity to your Salsa dancing.

 

Recommended to take this course ongoing as Scarlet always has something new and challenging to share.

Pre-requisite: Mambo Track or Mambo 2 or higher.

ADVANCED

Salsa 4

This course will definitely make you stand out on the dance floor!

 

Geared for high intermediate On1 social dancers proficient in our Salsa 3 curriculum. Course material is dynamic, challenging and full of directional changes so solid ability of fundamental partnering techniques  and solid timing is required.

 

Recommended to take this level a minimum of 12 months. 

 

Pre-requisite: High Proficiency in Salsa 3 at Dance Vancouver.

Mambo 4

This course will definitely make you stand out on the dance floor!

Geared for intermediate to high-intermediate On2 / Mambo students proficient with all the techniques in Mambo levels 2 - 3 and are proficient in social dancing On2. 

Pre-requisite: High Proficiency at a Mambo 3 skill

Wednesdays, 8:30 - 9:20pm

Advanced Mambo Track 

Maximize your time & learning!

 

The Advanced Mambo Track is for the die hard dancer hungry to learn and explore new movements and challenges and has put in the time and energy to be ready for this class. Mambo Shines+ & Body Movements + conveniently held in back to back time slots. 

These are non-partner, non-touch classes.

Mambo Body Movement +

This course will challenge even the most seasoned dancers!

Building on the increased physical capacity, control and coordination from Body Movement Basics and Body Movements Beyond, this course will set your self-expression and style on fire. 

 

Recommended to take on an ongoing basis, even for the most seasoned dancer. 

 

Pre-requisites: Proficiency in our Body Movement Basics and Shines Basics. 

Wednesdays, 6:30 - 7:30pm

Mambo Footwork + 

Challenge your mind and body all while getting a great workout. 

 

Using the Shines Basics, Shines Beyond courses as building blocks, this course will unlock unlimited possibilities for shines, expression and stylizing your dancing. 

 

Recommended to take this course on an ongoing basis.

Pre-requisites: 6months of Shines Basics and Body movement basics.
